General Educational Development (GED)

Testing

The GED battery consists of five sub-tests: Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Literature, and Mathematics. The cost for the complete battery is $50. Individual sub-tests are $10 each. All examinees are required to attend a GED orientation and to obtain a referral form from the Adult Education Department prior to registering for the GED. Registration for the GED test can be performed at any OWC Campus/Center. Information on GED orientations is also available at each OWC location.

Effective January 2002, a new GED test was introduced. The new test evaluates proficiency that was not assessed on the previous test battery. Because of these changes, scores earned on tests taken prior to January 1, 2002 cannot be combined with scores from the new tests.

Students who register to take the entire exam will be tested over a 2 day period. All re-testers or students not taking all 5 sub-tests of the exam must complete testing in one day. A photo ID (Florida driver’s license or FL ID card) AND social security card or military ID are required at the time of registration and on both days of the test.

Special accommodations for learning/physically disabled are available by contacting the Testing Supervisor at the Niceville Campus (729-6922) at least six weeks prior to the scheduled test date. Spanish and French versions of the exam are also available with a prior notice of 4-6 weeks.

Contact the OWC Testing Center with any questions concerning testing.
