The Dental Assisting program at Northwest Florida State College held a pinning ceremony August 5 to honor the 2005 graduates of the college's vocational certificate program in Dental Assisting.

Mary Thomas, dental program coordinator, noted that the O-W graduates are now certified for Dental Assisting throughout the state of Florida including Radiography Certification and other expanded functions. Graduates are encouraged to also take the Dental Assisting National Board Exam.

Thomas praised local dentists for their integral role in helping to train Northwest Florida State College dental assisting students. "Some dentists teach for the program as well as provide their offices for clinical practicum sites for our students," she said. Information on the application process for the next class of Dental Assisting students is available from the Dental program's office at 729-6444 or on the web at www.nwfstatecollege.edu/dental

Charitable contributions from businesses and individuals are needed to establish Dental Assisting scholarships for future Dental Assisting students and to provide program support. Naming opportunities for the new dental laboratory and classrooms are also available.
