The Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) are norm-referenced tests designed to measure achievement of basic skills commonly found in adult basic education curricula and taught in instructional programs.

The content areas measured are reading, language, and mathematics.

Various vocational technical programs require the TABE test as a basis of admission into a particular program. In addition, local agencies and employers may require prospective employment candidates to provide TABE scores.

A study manual for the GED exam is a good tool to help you prepare for the TABE. The assessment levels extend downward to include beginning reading skills, and upward to include many objectives in all content areas that are measured in the GED tests and taught at the high school level and beyond.

The TABE is administered at Northwest Florida State College as follows:

For entrance into Northwest Florida State College programs: Contact the Career Resource Center, Niceville Campus, for dates and testing times. They can be reached by calling 850-729-5227.

For individuals who are NOT seeking entrance into an Northwest Florida State College program, testing is conducted on Monday 8:30 am, 1  pm; Tuesday 8:30 am, 1 pm, and 5 pm; Thursday 1 pm; and Friday 8:30 am in Room C-200 at the Niceville Campus. Call the Testing Center at 850-729-6922 to reserve a seat or register online. There is a $15 testing fee payable at time of testing.

A photo ID is required for testing. All other supplies will be furnished.
