11/20/07 - In correlation with the theme of this year's Niceville Christmas Parade "Star Spangled Christmas" SGA has decided to send care packages to local military members stationed overseas in hostile areas. To add to the personalized care packages, we ask that college faculty, staff, and students become involved and take the time to write a short message(s). SGA and the Student Activities office will be in K-Mall during lunch hours the week of November 26 with the message templates. They will also be available in the Student Activities office any time during normal office hours.
The care packages will be mailed on December 3. Please do not miss the opportunity to tell some of our local military members how much they are appreciated.Star Spangled Wishes to our troops from SGA

10/09/07 - OWC students set a record last week during the SGA Fall Blood Drive. Useable units of donated blood totaled 103 pints -- the most pints ever collected by the Northwest Florida Blood Center during an on-location drive in Okaloosa or Walton County! Also impressive were the 61 individuals who donated blood for the first time during the OWC Blood Drive.
SGA thanks all our contributors - the Florida Association of Community Colleges, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and Papa John's Pizza. A big thank you also goes out to radio station Z96 for broadcasting from K Mall. Most of all, a HUGE thank you to the students, staff, and faculty at OWC. We could not have done it without your blood! You truly made a difference in the local community through your participation and generosity!SGA President Welcome
08/21/07 - Welcome back to another school year at Okaloosa-Walton College. To those of you who are returning students -- I hope this year proves to be as lively and active&and educational&as the last. To those students just beginning at OWC, you are in for a wonderful year at a small college with amazing faculty and staff and a bustling extra-curricular life. Student Government Association at OWC plays a big part in the on-campus student activities. Every year we plan and run a Fall Fling and Spring Fling on the Niceville campus where free food, activities, and social opportunities are provided. We also host or assist with socials on the other OWC campuses. SGA focuses on serving the community with Blood Drives, a Thanksgiving Food Drive, and a Christmas Toy Drive. As all of the clubs and organizations on campus fall under the SGA umbrella, you will find that they too are active in on-campus events. Groups like the African American Student Association (AASA), Christian Apologetics Fellowship (CAF), Radiology Club, Game Club, Film Club, as well as many other organizations, meet often for entertainment, educational, and social purposes. Student Government Association doesnt forget its role as governing body of the OWC students; as much as we may enjoy running events geared toward the student body, our SGA has pride in our well-rounded, diverse leaders. Senators work hard to bring the best to the students of OWC, whether it is through events, community service, or representative roles on-campus and off. The Okaloosa-Walton College SGA is part of a larger organization, the Florida Junior Community College Student Government Association (FJCCSGA). Every year members from our SGA travel across Florida to represent the students of OWC at various FJCCSGA meetings and conferences. We get a chance to meet with Student Governments from around Florida, participate in leadership training exercises, take a stand on different Florida Legislative issues important to college students, and, given that we are college students, enjoy time to socialize.
Have I peaked your interest yet? Student Government Association and organizations at OWC are always looking for more members. The more you get involved as a student, the more enjoyable and successful your college experience will be. There is bound to be a club or organization that fits one of your interests. You can even start your own club. Just stop by the Student Activities office in building K for information. My door is also always open. Feel free to email me or leave me a message on the bulletin board outside my office in building K and I will get back to you as soon as possible. As President, I hope to work with all of you to make this year at Okaloosa-Walton College the best possible. Sincerely, Kelsey Alderfer Student Government President sga@owc.edu 850.678.5111 ext. 6786SGA President Welcome Message
