Establishing a Student Organization
OWC guidelines for establishing a student organization are considered to be under the jurisdiction of the Student Senate. Any students interested in forming an organization should follow this procedure:
- Submit to the Student Senate
- The purpose(s) of the organization,
- The prospective membership,
- Tentative charter membership,
- Plans of procedure,
- Financial plans, and
- The proposed constitution and organization outline of the group.
- Obtain approval of the proposed organization by the Student Senate.
- Transmit the organizational documents and documentation of Student Senate approval thereof to the Dean of Student Services for processing for final approval by the appropriate College committee(s) as a college-recognized student organization; and
- Upon final approval, file with the Coordinator of Student Activities four (4) copies of the organization's constitution and such related documents as may be applicable.
Student Organization Rules
Students enrolled at the college (OWC) are free to organize and are encouraged to join associations which promote their common interests, so long as the following apply:
- The purposes, principles, and policies of the organization are consistent with the general philosophies and principles of the college;
- Membership in the organization is open to all currently-enrolled college students in good standing without regard to age, color, creed, national origin, handicap, marital status, race, religion, or sex except for those particular groups which are selective on the basis of scholarship;
- The purpose, criteria for membership,m rules or procedures, and a current list of officers are filed with the Coordinator of Student Activities;
- The policies and actions of the organization are determined only by those individuals who hold bona fide membership in the organization;
- A faculty sponsor has been appointed by proper authority;
- The Student Senate has recommended, and the President of the college has approved recognition of the organization, and
- The organization is in compliance with the general and specific policies enumerated in the Handbook for Student Organizations.
