FAQs
Allied Health Programs: Radiography
What is the job outlook and salary range?
Typically salaries start at around $30,000 per year up to about $40,000 per year. Currently there is a regional shortage of Radiographers. A career in Radiography technology can lead in many directions. Demand for Radiographic technologists is strong across the country, in every health care setting. Radiography graduates can work in a large hospital, a suburban outpatient clinic or a rural physician's office. Some Radiographers choose to specialize in various areas in Diagnostic Imaging from cardiac lab imaging to orthopaedics. Radiographers could be responsible for quality assurance or for overseeing the implementation of new technology. Still other Radiographers manage an entire Radiography department, including its budget and personnel. The boundaries of one’s career in radiographic technology are determined only by one’s own abilities and interests.
When are the classes taught?
The Radiography coursework is offered primarily during the day on the college's Niceville campus. General coursework for the associate degree program is available days, evenings, on weekends at all six Northwest Florida State College locations and through distance learning.
What about Financial Assistance?
At Northwest Florida State College, we are committed to providing financial assistance for students to further their education. The financial resources of the students and their families should not limit educational opportunities. Northwest Florida State College provides a comprehensive student financial aid program consisting of scholarships, grants, loans, and employment. Aid is based on individual need, educational costs, availability of funds, and in some cases, merit. Funds may be limited, so students are encouraged to apply for financial aid by the advertised priority deadlines.
What are the Admission Requirements?
Enrollment in the Associate Degree in Radiography is limited to 24 students per academic year. Beginning students will apply for admission to the program in the spring term and be admitted for enrollment in the fall.
Will the courses I take the spring I apply to the program count toward the weighted point scale?
Yes, applications are due April 1 and we wait until grades are in to compute the final number of points for each student.
What happens if I am not selected for the Radiography program?
Eligible students who are not admitted will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which they were selected in the random lottery. The waiting list will expire on the first day of classes for the fall term. Students still seeking admission to the program must reapply in a subsequent term. Students who are not selected and have interests in other health care programs are encouraged to apply to those programs.
Can I apply to more than one Allied Health or Nursing Program?
Yes, students who have an interest in more than one program are encouraged to apply to those programs, as well. If you have questions about other programs, please contact the program director or an academic advisor.
When will I know if I’ve been accepted to the program?
Eligible applicants who are selected will be notified in writing during the month of June.

If deemed ineligible for transfer, transfer candidates may submit a written request for appeal to the radiography program director and include the following:
- Justification for being accepted for transfer despite failure to meet eligibility requirements above.

- Evidence of academic ability to meet program requirements.
The appeal process may include an interview with radiography program faculty and/or the Vice President for Instruction. The radiography program director will notify appeal candidates of the decision of the college.
NOTE: Enrollment will be based on available space. Transfer students who enter the radiography program must attend at least two semesters in residency at Northwest Florida State College in order to graduate from the program.
