Admission/Eligibility Requirements
 

Program admission requirements parallel the State of Florida AS to BS Articulation Agreement.

  • Completion of an associate degree nursing program or nursing diploma prior to enrollment
  • Documentation of Current Florida RN Licensure
    • Recent graduates of associate degree nursing programs or Registered Nurses who have recently moved to Florida and have not yet obtained a Florida RN License may apply and may be accepted on a provisional basis.  Provisional status may be removed once the student obtains a current Florida RN License.
  • Completion of all admission forms for Northwest Florida State College by the established deadline
  • Submission of all official transcripts by the established deadline
  • Documentation of a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher in all college credit course work and a grade of “C” or higher in all Florida Common Course Prerequisites applicable to the RN to BSN degree program
    • Depending on program capacity, students with less than a 2.75 may be admitted on a provisional basis.  However, in all cases, the student must have earned a “C” or higher grade in all common course prerequisites.  Provisional status may be removed if the student earns a GPA of 3.0 or higher for his/her first eight upper division nursing credits at Northwest Florida State College.
    • Ideally, prerequisite and general education courses should be completed prior to enrolling in upper division nursing courses; however, all prerequisite and general education courses must be completed by the beginning of the senior year.
  • Completion of the standard Florida foreign language upper division admission requirement
    • If, at the time of admission, the student has not completed two consecutive years of the same foreign language in high school or eight credits in college, the student must complete eight credits of foreign language before completing the program.
  • Completion of Florida CLAST requirements
    • If, at the time of admission, the student has not completed CLAST requirements, the student will need to meet this criterion by the completion of 36 upper division credit hours at Northwest Florida State College, or enrollment in future credits may be restricted.

Additional pre-enrollment conditions, which include proof of immunizations, CPR verification, drug screen, and background check, must be satisfied prior to registration.
 
Steps to Apply for Admission
 
    1. Apply online or mail-in application to Northwest Florida State College. Check BSN as your degree choice. http://www.nwfstatecollege.edu/Admissions/OnlineAdmissions.cfm
    2. Complete the online application for the RN to BSN program. (The application you are currently filling out.)
    3. Complete the NWF State College online orientation http://www.nwfstatecollege.edu/Orientation/
    4. Request transcripts from all the colleges, tech schools and high schools (including AP courses)  that you have attended by contacting those institutions and asking them to send your official transcripts to the Northwest Florida State College-Admissions Office.

    If the number of people eligible for admission to the program exceeds the enrollment capacity, a random selection process will be used to determine individuals to be admitted. Preference will be given to residents of Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Additional prerequisites or pre-enrollment conditions must be satisfied prior to registration.

    If a student does not complete the application process or does not begin the program after being accepted, that student is asked to repeat the application process to assure all information is updated and correct.
