Curriculum

Project Management BAS

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Project Management (BAS) offers OWC students a unique opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for career advancement. Program content has been developed with input from local employers and is reflective of traditional business management degrees, as well as of the technical skills identified by appropriate professional organizations.

There are five pre-planned areas of emphasis in the BAS program: Acquisitions, Project Management, Quality Improvement, Public Service Management, and Training & Development/Human Resources. There is also an option for developing a "customized" program plan that allows a student, in consultation with an advisor, to select the set of upper division courses most complementary to his or her education and career goals.

In addition to the 36-credit general education requirement (1000 and 2000 level courses) for a baccalaureate degree, students will build upon their associate degree coursework to complete a comprehensive 120-credit curriculum. The junior and senior level curriculum (3000 and 4000 level courses) consists of a 27-credit core and a 15-credit area of emphasis.

  • Business Trends and Issues

Most students will complete the core first, but some specialized courses may be taken prior to completion of the core. Students may select the area of emphasis that best fits his/her career goals. There are six routes to choose from, each requiring at least fifteen credits to meet degree requirements.

  • Quality Certification: ISO 9000
  • BAS Upper Division Electives

Public Service Management — Fifteen (15) credits covering the following topics:

  • Public Service Operations
  • Leadership and Group Dynamics
  • Strategic Planning and Management
  • Issues in Public Service Administration
  • BAS Upper Division Elevtives

Training & Development/Human Resources — Fifteen (15) credits covering the following topics:

  • Issues in Human Resources Management
  • Leadership and Group Dynamics
  • Training and Development
  • BAS Upper Division Electives

Custom Program Plan — Fifteen (15) credits covering the following topics:

  • Leadership and Group Dynamics
  • Strategic Planning and Management
  • BAS Upper Division Electives

Graduation Requirements

Students must meet the following requirements to receive the Bachelor of Applied Science degree:

  • Successfully complete all courses required in the degree program (minimum 120 semester hours), including the lower division associate degree.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 36 general education credits according to the distribution established by the College for its Associate of Arts degree program.
  • Successfully complete at least 40 semester hours of upper division coursework in the major (3000 or 4000 level courses with the ACG, BUL, FIN, GEB, MAN, or approved UPP/ELEC prefix).
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all coursework attempted in the program.
  • Successfully complete all four (4) parts of the CLAST Examination (through testing, exemption or waiver).
  • Successfully complete the Florida foreign language requirement: two years high school or one year of college (at least eight credits) in a single foreign language.
  • Complete at least 30 semester hours in residence at OWC.
  • Meet all other OWC graduation policies and deadlines.
